Procedures
-
Find a location near a green space or near traffic that has trees.
-
Search the tree for lichen (be sure to pick a spot with the most lichen)
-
If you have a partner, have your partner set the square (use a sheet of paper and four pins with string or yarn) while you set up epicollect.
-
Use a lichen grading scale to measure the amount of lichen.
-
On epicollect open up Lichen & Air pollution.
-
If you’re not sure about the species of the tree, use a tree guide to identify the tree.
-
Take circumference of the tree, be sure to measure the circumference 4 1/2ft from the base of the tree (be sure to use cm after you take the circumference)
-
For the particulate matter, connect your device up to a Air beam.
-
Make sure you have a data sheet to fill in the information.
-
When measuring lichen, use the guide on how crust, leafy, and bushy looks in order to give it a score from the lichen scale.
